Located on the eastern edge of the Himalayan range in the Nyingchi Prefecture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Mt. Namcha Barwa is the highest peak in the east end of the Himalayas with 7,782 meters (25,531ft) above sea level. In Tibetan language, Mt. Namcha Barwa means "stone fell from the sky", which is claimed to be the "father of all mountains". Mt. Namcha Barwa was the highest unclimbed independent mountain in the world until 1992 when it was finally climbed by a combined Chinese and Japanese team. [Photo/China Tibet Online]
