Tibet to boost publication in Tibetan language

China's Tibet Autonomous Region has launched a cluster of projects to promote the publication in Tibetan language and the preservation of ancient classics, reported Tibet Daily.

A total number of 13 projects will be initiated recently, including the construction of the national Tibetan Language Publication Base, the construction of publication and administration system of Tibetan websites, and the digitalization of editing system in Tibetan Ancient Books Publishing House.

In order to meet the demand of digitalization, the national Tibetan Language Publication Base will incorporate functions such as innovative planning, translation, digital publication, production of electronic audio and visual products, management of digital resources, development of information management software, and development of digital books in Tibetan language. Charge-free e-reader will be donated by the Base as well.

The regional government plans to invest further to preserve traditional culture, to protect the hand-written, rare and unique books in Tibetan language, and to collect and sort ballads, folklore legends as well as other folk art forms.

Tibetan classic books such as the Tibetan medicine literature The Four Medical Tantras, The Epic of King Gesar, and Buddhist scripture The Kangyur will be published with priority.

The total amount of publication in Tibetan language is expected to quadruple, and the electronic audio and visual products will triple from 2011 to 2015.
