Tibet Autonomous Region will make greater efforts to achieve the goal of 100 percent voluntary blood donation across the region by 2015, said Phurbu Drolma, director-general of the regional Health Department.
The number of voluntary blood donators increased to over 7140 persons-times by 45% in 2011 from over 4,930 persons-times in 2006 and the collected blood volume rose to 1.5 million milliliters by 53% from 980,000 milliliters, according to Phurbu Drolma.
Since 2007, all blood used in Lhasa's medical institutions has been donated blood, added Phurbu Drolma.
"Tibet will work hard to get regular blood donators to account for more than 30%, Tibetan blood donators to take up over 40%, single-time donation of 400 milliliter blood to rise to over 30%," said Phurbu Drolma.
