Tibet government will consolidate and improve the compulsory education and keep its balanced development inside the region, source from Tibetan Commission of Development and Reform.
In recent years, the central government has attached great importance of Tibet development. On July 6, 2011, the state council officially approved the "plan of aid-Tibet economic and social development during the 12th 'Five-year Plan' period", which included 226 projects and total investment of 330 billlion yuan. Tibet is facing its biggest opportunity and surly will leap forward in the next five years. As an important part of Tibet development, the education is emphasized by the central governments and local authorities.
Tibet aims to set up a modern education system with Tibet characteristics, according to Sonam Targyai, deputy chief of development and planning division of Tibetan Commission of Development and Reform. During the 12th "five-year plan" (2011-2015), Tibet will build more kindergartens in urban and rural areas, and achieve the goal of 60% enrollment rate of pre-school education; the primary school enrollment rate will reach 99.5 % due to consolidation and improvement of compulsory education and its balanced development; the gross enrollment rate of junior high school will reach 99%, senior high school 80%, and high school education will be basically popularized. At the same time, based on the characteristics of tibet education level, the vocational education will be attached great importance. As for the higher education, Tibet strives to achieve 30% enrollment rate in five years. In addition, special education will be greatly supported by the government to help children with disabilities receive education.
