Happy Teachers' Day

September 10, 2011 marks the 27th Teachers' Day in China. Students across the country are expressing their gratitude and thanks to the industrious teachers on this day.

"Mr Ning, Wish you happy on Sept 10.
This is your day. I wish you happy.
Happy Teacher's Day!"
Yours, Pema Drolkar

This is from a Tibetan student's self-made card to his teacher, Ning Hongbing in the special education school of Lhasa, capital city of Southwestern China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Like Pema Drolkar, many students, being pursuing studies in school or having graduated, send cards or messages with their sincere wishes to their beloved teachers celebrating teacher's day. Besides, some other students also join in the Network BBS, voicing their miss and wishes to their teachers.

"We are more thankful than we can express."

"Thank you, my dear teacher. You have taught me to know 'nothing is impossible to a willing heart'; Happy Teacher's Day!"

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."

"Wish you health, happiness and good luck all year long, my dear teacher."

"It is the most appropriate time to show our gratitude to you. Thank you, my teacher! You are like the sun in the sky and we, the grass on the land."

Such words and remarks are flooding on various network BBS, expressing the students' inner voice of gratitude to their industrious teachers.

It has been a traditional virtue for the Chinese people to respect their teachers since ancient China. Teachers have been dubbed as "gardener", "engineers of human souls" and is respected by a whole society as a career.

In China, there is a famous saying which goes "He who teaches me for one day is my father for life", having a similar meaning as the saying: teach others to fish and they will fish for a lifetime.

September 10 marks the Teacher's Day of People's Republic of China. On January 21, 1985, the Ninth Session of the Sixth Standing Committee of the National People's Congress formally decided to set Sept.10 as the National Teacher's Day. Over the past 27 years, China has celebrated this day for the important role teachers play for education on every 10th of September. Various activities to pay respect to teachers are held throughout China.
