Locating in the southeastern of Tibet, the Medog County of Nyingchi Prefecture covers a total area of 30,000 square kilometers with an average altitude of 1,000 meters.

Belonging to the river valley of the lower reaches of Yarlung Zangbo River, Medog is one of the holy land for Tibetan Buddhism.
