The Chinese Antarctic Scientific Research Team launched 9-day training for selection at China's Kunlun Station in Lhasa.
The to-be-selected team members will be trained for an upcoming summer scientific research at the "Third Pole of theWorld" - Tibet, source from Xinhua net.
Team members will be screened and trained in Lhasa and Yangbajain Altitude Training Base. The training program will include precautionary measures on the plateau, self-help and hedge under extreme conditions, rock climbing, walking with a heavy load, etc. twenty five team members will be selected to carry out Antarctic scientific research at the Kunlun Station . Qu Tanzhou, director of polar region exploration office of State Oceanic Bureau said.
Qu added that Tibet is a suitable place for team members of Chinese Antarctic to be trained and get used to the whether condition in Antarctic. China Kunlun Antarctic Station is located in an environment with low temperature and hypoxia at an altitude of 4,093 meters, which is very similar to that of the Tibetan Plateau area.
The Scientific Research Team is scheduled to set off to the Antarctic in October after the training and screening is finished. They will finish their scientific mission at the China Kunlun Station, such as doing surveys on the oceans, astronomic observation, the second phase of construction of the Kunlun Station, etc. The team will be back to China in April of 2012.
