Tibet's top dance battle to be staged on Chinese V-Day

The third DCB Street Dance Competition, a top street-dance team competition in southwest China's Tibet, will be held at the Tibet Theater in Lhasa on the Chinese Valentine's Day, August 6.

Thirteen local street-dance teams and one team from northwest China's Qinghai Province will compete for the championship.

Out of the 20 registering street-dance teams in Tibet, only the 13 teams passed the previous rounds while Qinghai's champion team "T Pribe" also got the ticketto the finals, according to Soinam Cedain, organizer of the competition and team leader of Tibet's leading street-dance team "Dynasty of Tibet Dancing Crow".

Soinam explained few teams registered the first DCB Street Dance Competition in 2004. Nevertheless, with an increasing number of dance learner and the improvement of dance techniques, more and more teams joined the competition.

The newly set Qinghai division was designed to reinforce the exchanges between Tibetan dances with counterparts in other places of China.

More preliminary contest areas will be added next year. "Street dance is very popular among Tibetan children," Soinam added.


The contest is planned in the summer vacation period, definitely a good time to show Tibetan youngsters'street dance level while helpful to enrich their summer lives.

The organization committee confirmed that the ticket income would be all denoted for charity.
