The 9th Mt. Qomolangma Cultural Tourism Festival is scheduled to open on August 26, and lasts till September 1 in Shigatse Prefecture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
This year, the festival is planned to consist of activities in six categories: cultural performances, tourism-themed programs, trade fairs, publicity and environmental remediation activities, introduced Wangdu, deputy commissioner of the Shigatse Prefectural government at the recent press conference in Lhasa.
Various exhibitions, performances, fairs and ceremonies are designed to attract not only tourists but also investigators and business partners as Shigatse is striving to carve a niche for itself in both tourism and trade markets.
This festival serves as a major window to showcase its charm and potential, Wangdu said.
He added that this year, based on the past experience, they would exert more efforts in attracting investment, exchanging commodities and promoting tourism.
The Mt. Qomolangma Cultural Tourism Festival, initiated in 2001 is usually held in summer when the highland region meets its tourism peak. By far, it has grown to be one of the famous tourism brands in Tibet, gaining more popularity among tourists from worldwide.
