Nyemo making preparations for rainy season hazards

Village-based working teams in Lhasa's Nyemo County have been making preparations with flood control and drought relief for the impending flood season.

Efforts have been made to ensure local human, material and financial resources being comprehensively mobilized by safeguarding and strengthening efficient communication and coordination with all departments concerned including water conservancy, meteorology, finance and publicity departments at both county and city levels.

To mitigate the harm caused by rain-triggered rural disasters, flood control group based in every village has conducted preparatory investigations over all places of potential danger within the areas.

By far, seventeen investigating teams have found out more than ninety hidden dangerous places, most of which have been properly fixed.

The village-based working teams have held both carders and mass meetings to make flood-control arrangements, including the establishment of communication and information mechanism for timely and comprehensive information delivery. The mechanism will be used to promptly transmit related authoritative policies and goals, coordinate flood preparation work and provide ing basis for decision-making in higher level.

On July 7, a small mudslide occurred in a village of Nyemo, blocking spillways and resulting in some houses and farmland in danger. The local flood control working teams rushed to the spot of the accident immediately after they were informed. About seventy people were organized to clear the spillways and reinforce the dam with large scale machineries, effectively safeguarding the local farmers and herdsmen's lives and property.
