"All my family got too excited to sleep in the new-type tent on the first night," said a Tibetan herder named Rigzin from Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of southwest China's Sichuan Province.
Rigzin has a three-member family in Gucha Village, a Tibetan village with an elevation of 4,000 meters.
The new-type tent was distributed by the province and installed with nine living facilities, such as folding beds and solar lights.
"We used to live in dark tents weaved with yak hair. In summer, the rain could leak in and in winter, they couldn't keep us warm," said Rigzin.
By November of 2011, the housing project had enabled altogether 450,000 Tibetan herders to move to safe and comfortable houses or apartments in Tibetan-inhabited areas of Sichuan Province, and bid farewell to their wandering hard life.
Meanwhile, a total of 100,000 new-type tents fit for the local climate and environment were distributed to Tibetan herders free of charge.
