With the operation of the Qinghai-Tibet railway, many Tibetans have been able to take a train to Tibet Autonomous Region to pay a pilgrimage from a long way off.
A Tibetan grandma recited scriptures, a Tibetan grandpa turned his prayer wheel and little Tibetan kids played happily… in one carriage of K9801, a train to Tibet, on Jan. 27, 2012. They may come from different Tibetan-inhabited areas but have the same destination--Lhasa.
The Qinghai-Tibet railway, known as the world's highest-altitude and longest railway, starts from Xining, capital of Qinghai Province in the east to Lhasa, capital of Tibet in the west, running about 1,956 kilometers.
As a landmark project of the strategy of developing the western regions, the Qinghai-Tibet railway has been put into operation since June 29, 2001.
