Buddha painting unfolding ceremony held in Tashilhunpo Monastery
Photo taken on Jul. 1, 2015, the 14th day of the fifth month in Tibetan calendar, shows a Buddha painting unfolding ceremony is held in Tashilhunpo Monastery, Shigatse City, southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. The Tashilhunpo Monastery holds the ceremony from the 14th to 16th of the fifth month in Tibetan calendar every year, which boasts a history of over 500 years. The giant Thangka painting of Amitabha (the Buddha of infinite light), completed in 1990s, is 25 meters wide and 35 meters high. The Thangka paintings of Sakyamuni (the founder of Buddhism) and Champa Buddha (the Buddha of the future) are scheduled to be unfolded on Jul. 2 and 3 respectively in the monastery.
